🧀 Discover the Yorkshire Dales one cheese at a time
If you love cheese, you're in the right place!
When you stay at Ashes Farm, you're surrounded by some of the Yorkshire Dales' most interesting cheese producers, farm shops and specialist cheesemongers.
But our connection with Yorkshire cheese goes further than simply recommending places to visit.
Cheese was once made here at Ashes Farm.
The story later became connected with Iain Hill and Ribblesdale Cheese, giving our farmhouse its own small piece of the Dales' cheesemaking history. Although Ribblesdale Cheese in Hawes stopped trading in 2020, the tradition of small-scale cheesemaking continues to thrive across the Yorkshire Dales.
Today, you can follow your own Ashes Farm Yorkshire Dales Cheese Trail.

🧀 Start at The Courtyard Dairy
Just around the corner in Austwick, The Courtyard Dairy is one of our most frequently recommended places for guests.
Visit the specialist cheese shop and museum, discover the story of British farmhouse cheese, and enjoy RIND – cheese, pizza and wine.
If you're interested in actually making cheese, look out for their cheesemaking experiences and book ahead.

🥛 Discover Lowfields Farm Dairy
Near Ingleton, Lowfields Farm is a small family dairy producing traditional Lancashire cheese from Dairy Shorthorn milk.
It's an excellent stop if you enjoy seeing how local farms turn their own produce into something special.
🐐 Try goat's cheese at Piper Hole
Fancy something different?
Piper Hole Goat Farm produces artisan goat cheese and handmade goat's milk soap from their own dairy goats.
🧀 Visit Wensleydale Creamery
No Yorkshire cheese trail would be complete without a visit to Hawes.
At Wensleydale Creamery you can discover the story behind one of Yorkshire's most famous cheeses, visit the visitor centre, taste cheese and browse the shop.

🧀 Discover the new generation of farmhouse cheesemakers
Curlew Dairy is part of the exciting revival of farmhouse Wensleydale.
Their Yoredale cheese is made in small batches using unpasteurised milk and a traditional-inspired recipe.
🧀 Make your own cheese at Lacey's
If you want a hands-on experience, Lacey's Cheese in Reeth offers cheesemaking courses where you get involved in the process and take some cheese home. They also offer gelato-making experiences.
These are bookable experiences, so arrange them before your visit.
🧀 Finish at The Cheese Press
For a longer day out, Richmond's Cheese Press is another great destination, with a selection of Yorkshire artisan cheeses and a Saturday evening Cheese Bar offering tasting plates and sharing boards.
🌌 From cheese to stars
And here's our favourite way to finish a day on the Cheese Trail.
Bring your favourite Yorkshire cheeses back to Ashes Farm, relax and enjoy the countryside.
Then, when darkness falls, look upwards.
We're in the Yorkshire Dales International Dark Sky Reserve, so why not combine your foodie adventure with a little stargazing?
Our Dark Skies hamper is available for guests, and telescope hire gives you the opportunity to explore the night sky in more detail.
🧀 Cheese by day. 🌌 Stars by night.
That's our idea of a Yorkshire Dales break!
